Sajek Valley
The name of Sajek Valley came from the Sajek River that originates from Karnafuli river. The Sajek river works as a border between Bangladesh and India.
Sajek Valley is one of the most popular tourist spots in Bangladesh situated among the hills of the Kasalong range of mountains in Sajek union, Baghaichhari Upazila in Rangamati District. The valley is 2,000 feet (610 m) above sea level. Sajek Valley is known as the Queen of Hills & Roof of Rangamati.
Sajek valley is known for its natural environment and is surrounded by mountains, dense forest, and grassland hill tracks. Many small rivers flow through the mountains among which the Kachalong and the Machalong are notable. On the way to Sajek valley, one has to cross the Mayni range and the Mayni river. The road to Sajek has high peaks and falls.
Kaptai Lake
Kaptai Lake is the largest man made lake in Bangladesh. It is located in the Kaptai Upazila under Rangamati District of Chittagong Division. The lake was created as a result of building the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River, as part of the Karnaphuli Hydro-electric project. Kaptai Lake's average depth is 100 feet (30 m) and maximum depth is 490 feet (150 m).
Construction of the reservoir for the hydro-electric plant began in 1956 by the Government of East Pakistan. As a result, 54,000 acres (220 km2) of farmland in the Rangamati District went underwater and created the lake. The project was finished in 1961. 40% of the total arable land went underwater as a result of the dam construction and 100,000 people were displaced. The palace of the king of the Chakmas was also flooded and is also underwater. The International Engineering Company and Utah International Inc. received the contract for construction of the dam. The dam is 670.8 meters long, and 54.7 meters high.
Konglak Haphong
Konglak Haphong or Konglak Hill is one of the most popular tourist spots in Bangladesh, situated among the hills in Sajek Union, Baghaichhari Upazila in Rangamati District. The valley is 1800 feet above sea level.
Konglak Haphong located in Sajek Valley which is the highest peak of Sajek. This hill located in Sajek Union located in the north of Chittagong Hill Tracts. It is under Baghaichori Upazila in Rangamati hill district. On the top of this are the villages of Haphong, Konglak Kami, or Konglak Para located where indigenous people live.
